A General Banking Officer is responsible for delivering quality customer service and managing day-to-day branch banking operations. The role involves handling account opening processes, managing customer queries, performing non-financial transactions, supporting administrative tasks, and ensuring compliance with banking regulations and internal procedures. The officer also assists in maintaining branch records, fixed assets inventory, and security stationery while ensuring smooth operational workflow.
What does a General Banking Officer do?
- Provide efficient customer handling at the branch and ensure service delivery in line with defined quality standards and service indicators.
- Perform operational duties across all branch segments at inputter/maker level.
- Manage account opening processes and related activities including dormancy marking/removal, stop payments, account closures, SOA issuance, loan account opening/closure, deceased marking/removal, and level migration for Core Banking and JazzCash customers.
- Participate in Gold Loan assessment processes.
- Prepare deceased customer refund cases and maintain proper documentation and records.
- Handle customer queries professionally and take steps to achieve assigned branch service targets.
- Process all types of non-financial transactions accurately as per SOPs.
- Guide walk-in customers and support cross-selling of banking products and services.
- Prepare operational reports for submission to Customer Services Manager (CSM) and Head Office.
- Conduct annual physical verification of fixed assets and reconcile records accordingly.
- Act as joint custodian of security stationery and ensure proper balancing and record-keeping.
- Provide administrative support to the branch in coordination with CSM/Branch Manager.
- Handle customer complaints and provide timely solutions within defined turnaround times (TAT).
- Maintain updated registers and reconcile Sundry and Suspense accounts.
- Scan and upload SS cards daily and process clearing instruments and returns.
- Facilitate issuance and destruction of cheque books, Banker’s Cheques, and TDRs while ensuring proper balancing.
- Act as custodian of received cheque books and ATM cards and ensure delivery as per SOPs.
- Support teller operations when required, including cash sorting in compliance with SBP Clean Notes Policy.
- Process cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque deposits, and outward clearing instruments accurately.
- Identify and report counterfeit notes.
- Manage inter-teller cash exchange and ensure secure cash transfer between till and vault at start and end of day.
- Perform FT, TT, and clearing entries accurately and ensure end-of-day cash balancing (Physical vs System – T24).
- Maintain cash balancing registers, teller daily cash records, SBP sheets, vault position, average sheets, and other cash reports.
- Act as custodian of allocated keys and stamps.
- Perform any additional responsibilities assigned by Line Management.

- Minimum 2 years of relevant banking experience.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced branch environment and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
