About the Role

UBL Ameen is seeking an experienced and highly analytical professional for the position of Unit Head – Asset Operations & Internal Control. The role is responsible for strengthening the internal control environment, enhancing risk management practices, supporting audit management processes, and ensuring regulatory compliance across branches and Head Office functions.

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in branch banking operations, internal controls, audit management, operational risk, process improvement, and regulatory compliance within the banking sector.


Key Responsibilities

Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Assess and strengthen operational controls across branches and Head Office functions.
  • Conduct control reviews and recommend corrective actions for identified gaps.
  • Develop quarterly control assessment reports and improvement plans.
  • Manage and oversee Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) activities.
  • Administer Institutional Risk Assessment Framework (IRAF) processes.
  • Monitor operational loss incidents and classify risk exposure levels.

Audit & Compliance Management

  • Identify weak-performing branches based on internal, external, regulatory, and operational audit findings.
  • Support branches during audit engagements and facilitate timely closure of observations.
  • Prepare audit contestations, supporting evidence, and management submissions.
  • Coordinate with auditors and business units to improve audit ratings and compliance outcomes.
  • Assist in implementing Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR).

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify process gaps and contribute to process re-engineering initiatives.
  • Ensure implementation of resolutions arising from cross-functional committees.
  • Support operational efficiency while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Review and update operational procedures in line with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Business Continuity & Operational Support

  • Lead Business Continuity Planning (BCP) implementation and annual reviews.
  • Monitor BCP effectiveness and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Support fixed asset reconciliation and Takaful coverage implementation.
  • Track and facilitate resolution of regulatory penalties, settlements, and reconciliation matters.
  • Conduct branch visits and control assessments, including weekend operations.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as a key liaison between branches, regions, auditors, and Head Office functions.
  • Support execution of Controls and Compliance Committee action plans.
  • Coordinate special operational initiatives and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a backup resource for the Head Coordination & Internal Controls.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • ACCA qualification with a bachelor's degree will be considered.
  • MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field will be preferred.
  • Additional certification in Project Management will be an advantage.
  • Strong interest and inclination toward Islamic Banking is essential.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant banking experience.
  • Proven expertise in:
    • Branch Banking Operations
    • Internal Controls
    • Audit & Inspection Functions
    • Trade Operations
    • Process Re-engineering
    • Policy Development
    • Branch Reviews & Surprise Inspections
    • Audit Contestation & Regulatory Coordination
  • Experience dealing with regulators and central bank requirements will be highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Goal-oriented with a results-driven mindset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
  • Experience with project management tools.
  • Knowledge of Power BI, SQL, data analytics, dashboard development, and data management will be highly advantageous.
