The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) at the plant, strengthening compliance, promoting a proactive safety culture, identifying safety gaps, and ensuring timely corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Health & Safety orientations for new employees, contractors, and site visitors.
- Inspect vehicles, cranes, forklifts, and other equipment entering the plant and maintain inspection records.
- Organize emergency drills and maintain reports, follow-up actions, and related documentation.
- Identify and report hazards, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions and follow up on corrective actions.
- Report accidents and incidents and support investigation and corrective action processes.
- Monitor implementation of risk assessments, work permits, LOTOTO, and other H&S systems.
- Conduct H&S audits, inspections, and VFLs and track closure of identified safety gaps.
- Guide supervisors, foremen, and workers on safe work practices and address unsafe conditions where possible.
- Monitor PPE availability in coordination with Stores and ensure compliance with PPE requirements.
- Maintain records of safety performance, violations, corrective actions, and compliance.
- Promote safe behavior through regular employee interaction, awareness sessions, and engagement activities.
- Ensure compliance with company H&S requirements during routine and special activities.
- Perform other H&S-related duties assigned by the HOD H&S / Works HOD H&S.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification:
- DAE in Mechanical or Chemical
Experience:
- 01β02 years of relevant experience
Preferred Safety Certifications:
- IOSH
- NEBOSH
- OSHA
Specific Requirements
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence employees at different levels.
- Willingness to work at or be temporarily/permanently posted to other Bestway Cement locations, as required.
- Commitment to complying with Health & Safety policies and procedures.
